Sini Simonen (the inspiring first violin of the Castalian Quartet) and Alasdair Beatson (the superb pianist of the Nash Ensemble) make a welcome return after entrancing JW3 audiences last season with their marvellously gripping and very expressive playing.
Garfield Jackson and David Waterman team up again after their 42 years in the world-renowned Endellion Quartet and their concert for JW3 in November.
Schubert’s early Sonatina is graceful, amiable and touching. In contrast, Schumann’s D minor trio ranges from the turbulent, anguished and introspective to the outgoing and joyful. It is one of his very greatest instrumental pieces. Dvořák’s rare gift for Slav-flavoured melody and drama is exemplified in his unusually attractive second piano quartet. It is a favourite amongst players and audience alike.
