The Hanseatic League was an extraordinarily powerful medieval trading group, based around Northern Germany and The Baltic, but with very strong links with England too.
William will explore the organisational basis of The League, its ships and cargoes, and its wider influence on political affairs in Northern Europe, including here in England. We shall see how it started as well as how it ended, and compare it to The EU, and finally ask if any lessons can be drawn for modern day Europe.
