Join William for a special extended double lecture as he delves into the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth.
One of the greatest of European Empires, few know much of this state which existed in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.
At its early 17th century height it covered 400,000 square miles of territory, with a multi cultural population of some 12 million people. When it ended its territories were divided between Prussia, Russia, and Poland. Its structures, policies, and achievements throw much light on later European history, and even perhaps having lessons for Europe today.
