Stroll with us through the Spitalfields area adjacent to the venerable City of London, where magnificent Georgian houses line the side streets of an historic (now trendy and multi-cultural) neighbourhood.

Our walk will start in Aldgate at the site of the 2000-year old Roman Wall that defined the original settlement of Londinium, take us past Bevis Marks, London's oldest functioning synagogue opened in 1701, through famous streets such as Petticoat Lane and Brick Lane, and end at Spitalfields - a former Victorian covered market that is now famous for food, fashion, and art.

Hear about immigrant communities over the centuries that found refuge and work nearby, including French Protestant silk weavers, East European Jewish tailors, and Bangladeshi Muslim restauranteurs.

See historic streets where Yiddish was once the common language, later to be replaced by Bengali. Hear about the vibrant Jewish community that dominated the area in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and learn about 1000 years of Jewish history in Britain.

Join us to celebrate London's cultural diversity in the heart of this great city!
