This new film is based on the true story of Ziko, a nine-year-old orphan from Salonica.
Ziko joins a group of Greek Jews from Volos sheltering on the Pelion mountain. During WWII they were saved from being sent to the death camps by their Christian neighbours and the Communist underground. A Nazi SS Unit intent on deporting the Jews to Auschwitz arrives to set up their headquarters. They demand to be billeted with the group.
The film will be followed by a Q&A with the director, Rami Kimchi.
An author, cultural critic and award-winning film-maker, Rami Kimchi is a professor at Ariel University. His film, Night of Fools, about the Algerian-Jewish underground in in 1942, was shown at JW3 in 2017.
