Kickstart the Jewish New Year with The Great Camden Yiddish Parade.
As part of Camden Together, we are celebrating Victorian Yiddish culture in London, along with friends whose communities have also gathered here, making the city one of the most ethnically diverse in the world.
The parade will begin with outdoor workshops at JW3 to make placards, learn Yiddish song lyrics that were sung on London’s streets over a hundred years ago, and try out klezmer dance steps. Dressed in Victorian costume, we will parade to Kilburn Grange Park through local streets singing with a dozen-pieced (or more) Yiddish band marching band, dancing to klezmer, and hearing from iconic historical figures.
As we reach the park we will picnic together and meet poets and musicians from other local cultural groups, sharing music, telling stories of journeys and arrival, belonging and home (no knowledge of Yiddish or musical ability necessary).
We’ll provide song sheets and banners, just bring your own picnic for the park and feel free to dress up in Victorian costume. All ages welcome.
