Join Natalie Cumming, author of The Fiddle for a multimedia presentation about the story of a violin and its owners.

In 1917 Abraham, his family and violin fled the Bolsheviks. The violin passed to his daughter Rosa who was arrested on Kristallnacht and sent to Mauthausen concentration camp and to Auschwitz where she survived as a member of the Women’s Orchestra. The violin then passed to Rosa’s brother Israel, a celebrated musician involved in the post war investigations of the Nazis. Finally the violin came to Israel's daughter Natalie who has set out the extraordinary story of her family and the violin in her book The Fiddle.

Abraham's granddaughter Natalie will be speaking about how this precious artefact tells the history of her family and gives an overview of the plight of Jewish people in Europe during the 20th century.

The violin was repaired and featured on the BBC show “the Repair Shop”, and the violin will once again be played on the evening by a student of the renowned Yehudi Menuhin School.
