Composer, and Zorn collaborator, Sam Eastmond explores what it means to be both Jewish and British today, in this JW3 commissioned work.
Described by John Zorn’s Tzadik Label as “one of the most adventurous Big Bands working today” Eastmond’s Spike Orchestra features some of the UK’s most outrageous players, this new work is large ensemble Radical Jewish Culture though the British lens. With live visuals from fine artist Miki Shaw. Brit-Ish is a project supported by The New Music Biennial.
Eastmond is leading the way towards building a British variant on what Zorn began in New York
This concert of Brit-Ish will be accompanied by the world premiere of The Spike Orchestra’s Binah, from John Zorn’s Masada Book 3, The Book of Beriah, and the album launch of Sam Eastmond’s Gulgoleth. Brit-Ish is a JW3 commission, and was one of the new works selected for The New Music Biennial 2019, an initiative of the PRS Foundation. Miki Shaw’s live visuals are supported by Asylum Arts.
