John will sketch out how his investigations over two decades show how - since the 1990s - London and the UK have contributed to building up Hamas into the organisation it became before 7th October.
The UK is referred to by Hamas as part of "The Outside" (i.e. outside Gaza and the West Bank). Both wings of Hamas are now proscribed as a terrorist organisation in the UK on the basis that Hamas is one movement - a position Hamas leaders had acknowledged publicly since the 1990s.
Why the UK chose, for over two decades, to disregard the evidence from the mouths of Hamas leaders themselves is a key point John will address in this fascinating talk.
This event will take place using the Chatham House Rule, used around the world to encourage inclusive and open dialogue in meetings.
