As the Barbican prepares to unveil “Encounters: Giacometti” from 8 May 2025 – 1 May 2026, we are delighted to welcome back Sophie Lachowsky to explore the work of Alberto Giacometti.
Born into a family of painters, sculptors, and architects, Giacometti devoted his career to the interplay between form and space. His elongated, solitary figures are among the most iconic sculptures of modern art. Shaped by the devastation of postwar Europe, his body of work offers a profound reflection on the human condition. Imbued with emotional intensity and a timeless quality, Giacometti’s art continues to inspire and resonate with contemporary artists.
