With the rise of Chat-GPT and advances in robotics, the possibility of a robot revolution moves ever closer.
Will Robot Rabbis soon make it to our pulpits, lead us in ceremonies, marry, bury, and guide us? If so, what are the halachic implications? Will Judaism think of such robots as having souls? Will they have rights? Will they be able to make up a minyan? Are Jews likely to react differently to others when encountering such entities? In this session, Harris Bor will consider these issues and show how thinking about the future provides insights on religion and humanity that might guide us in the present.
Harris Bor is a Research Fellow at the London School of Jewish Studies, a commercial barrister, and author of “Staying Human: A Jewish Theology for the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” He holds a PhD in religion from Cambridge University and is a rabbinic scholar with the Montefiore Endowment.
