Bukovina inspires the imagination. Situated on the crossroads of former great empires this region, now a part of Ukraine, was the home of several ethnic groups, each of them leaving forever their imprint. Czernowitz, the main city of Bukovina was one of the most important centres of Jewish culture, with world famous Yiddish language writers Yitzok Manger, Eliezer Shteinbarg, German writer Paul Celan and others.

The screening of the documentary film Glimpses of Yiddish Czernowitz will be followed by a discussion of the aspects of a unique cultural phenomenon of a relatively small city of a hundred twenty thousand residents which produced giants of Yiddish & German literature. Wolf Moskovich is Professor Emeritus of the Hebrew University, Jerusalem. Author of over 300 papers in Slavic & Jewish studies. In partnership with the Ukrainian Jewish Encounter.
