Welcome to Kleztronica, where archival Jewish samples combine with racing electronic grooves!
In this workshop, we’ll learn how to arrange a klezmer tune for techno, sample archival recordings, and jam out to this electric dance music. Most importantly, we’ll learn how ancient traditions can lead to new fusions, and how we can create our own musical worlds.
Workshop Facilitators:
Chaia is a dance music artist who combines house and techno grooves with klezmer and Yiddish music. With electric fiddle grooves, archival samples, and club sounds, Chaia inspires new visions of Jewish diasporic identity. @chaialeh
Sir *Fun* Sized is the ultimate Jewish artiste. The world's best klezmer musician, according to his mother. He's pretty sure he's the first person ever to play the klezmer kazoo, but don't look it up. Sir uses drag, clowning and music to celebrate the long, queer history of Yiddish theatre.
Yael Elisheva is a performer, theatre-maker, writer and director. They're currently touring their one-man show Yaya As... The Wise Men of Chelm, a collection of hilarious and uncomfortably familiar stories of Jewish men grappling with their masculinity and whether or not to call their mums back. Their play This is the Story of Ayal and Noah’s Trip to Ell Neck is being developed with Soho Theatre Writers' Lab 2023-24.
