For centuries, the Middle East had been ignored by most of those who lived outside of it. But as the Ottoman Empire slowly began to collapse and the need for oil began to increase, the European nations and businesses began to see the region in a new light.
Paula will explore how the region was decided, the rise of the Arab nationalism and the divisions and territorial ambitions within, and how the new countries were created and governed alongside the internal disagreements.
Paula Kitching is an historian and writer. Paula is a regular contributor to the Historian magazine of the Historical Association, and has written articles for commemorative publications for the Royal British Legion and the MOD.
