The first deportations from Salonica began on 15 March 1943.

At one time the largest Ladino-speaking community lived in Salonica. More than half the inhabitants were Jewish, and the port shut on Saturdays. In the course of the twentieth century the situation changed tragically.

Learn about this vibrant community and the sequence of events that brought about its almost complete destruction. Rarely seen images from archives in Thessaloniki (Salonica) and New York will be shown.
