Join Paula as she looks back at the First World War over a century on.
Paula will look at key events that led to the war and how the conflict changed and developed. She will use the stories of individuals to illustrate many of the big themes and discussion about the war, especially the stories of Jews who fought or were affected by the conflict. Drawing on her own research for Britain’s Jews in the First World War as well as the work she continues to do in this field, the course will explore how much of Britain's Jewry went from being as outsiders to being very much entwined with British society.
Paula is an historian and writer. She is the project manager and historian for the project ‘We Were There Too’ a digital online archive on the Jewish experience of the First World War. Paula is a regular contributor to the Historian magazine of the Historical Association, and has written articles for commemorative publications for the Royal British Legion, the MOD and JW3. Her book Britain’s Jews in the First World War was published in 2019. Paula is an independent battlefield guide and has worked with the military as well as school groups and private tours. Paula Lectures in many aspects of cultural history in particular relating to war and genocide for adult audiences.
