What do we know about the Bible?
Jews have been called the 'People of the Book' (in fact, it's the Muslim definition of Jews, along with Christians) but how confidently can we lay claim to that status and identity?
In this course, Clive will outline the books of the Jewish Bible (the Tenakh) and their content and character, the current state of biblical scholarship, and Jewish attitudes to biblical text. The last session, as a coda to this course, on 11 December, will be about the Christian 'New Testament'.
We all know a good number of great stories and also some inspiring characters from the Bible, but what about all the rest? This course will help to set it all in context and explore why some bits are so much better known than others.
