Female Jewish Voices

Originally from Chicago, Sarah Sigal (she/her) is a freelance writer, dramaturg, director and researcher working across new writing, adaptation, site-specific theatre, film and fiction. She has taught at numerous British universities and is the author of Writing in Collaborative Theatre-Making (Bloomsbury, 2016). She is a Dramaturgs’ Network Board Member and an Associate Fellow at the Birkbeck Centre for Contemporary Theatre Research. She has recently directed her first short film No Caller and her first novel The Socialite Spy will be published in October 2023 by Lume Books. She is currently developing an adaptation of George Eliot’s Daniel Deronda.

Emily Rose Simons (she/her) is a musical theatre writer, composer and sound designer. Bookwriter-Composer-Lyricist credits include: Becoming Nigella… (BEAM, ACE Recipient), Confessions Of A Rabbi’s Daughter (The Other Palace, The Tank NYC) Composer-Lyricist credits include: The Inconvenient Miracle (EAG Grant Recipient). Rachel Bellman (she/her) is a London-based playwright, book writer and lyricist who writes across plays and musicals. Current projects include These Demons, scheduled for a London 2023 production; a new musical developed with young people at the Liverpool Empire; and the musical Game Theory, developed by Perfect Pitch and produced in concert at The Lowry in 2021. Other writing include The Dickens Girls (BYMT, New Wolsey Theatre, winner of the New Music Theatre Award), ISOLATED (JW3) and So-Called Gen Z (Edinburgh Fringe). Deli Segal (she/her) is an actor and writer from North London. Her debut one-woman show, Pickle, premiered at Park Theatre, London in May 2022 and sold out every performance. Pickle returned to Park Theatre in November 2022, followed by Manchester Jewish Museum and Radlett Arts Centre, and was nominated for 3 Offie Awards.  Her short film A Drop of Ambition, co-written and directed with Emma Attwood, was selected for various film festivals including Tallgrass Festival and Portland Comedy Film Festival. She is currently on the Channel 4Screenwriting Course 2023 and developing various projects for stage, TV and radio.

Suzette Coon (she/her) is a playwright and theatre maker living and working in London. She’s
delighted to have an extract from her play, ‘A Jewish Love Story’, showcased with Tanya
Truman Productions’ Female Jewish Voices. ‘A Jewish Love Story’ has been supported by
Watford Palace Theatre and Arts Council England, and has been shown at Manchester
Jewish Museum. Suzette’s new play, ‘Killer Whale’ will be touring in 2024 with A Million
Fred Productions and she has had plays produced at Southwark Playhouse, Arcola Theatre
and Theatre503, amongst others. She is passionate about showing the true representation of stories from all backgrounds and her theatre company, Little Pieces of Gold, has a strong track record of showcasing the work of under-represented writers. ‘Short Plays with Great Plays for Women’, an anthology of 22 short plays by women was published by Routledge Books in 2020.

Rosie Yadid (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist from New York City. She trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (BA Hons Acting), as well as The Barrow Group for playwriting. She spent two years writing and performing sketch comedy on a house team at the People’s Improv Theater. She produced, wrote and starred in award-winning short film 'Love Ya Like Poison!’, as well as a one act play of the same name which played for three nights Off Broadway in 2019. Her debut album, ‘Cute as a Glutton’ was released in 2020 and explores themes of pleasure, shame and depression. Rosie recently made her West End debut as Daphna in ‘Bad Jews’ and can be found doing stand up comedy around London.

Kayla Feldman (she/they) is a director and writer for the page, stage, and screen, and co-host of the monthly spoken word night Process. Her writing has been published widely and featured on podcasts, and in 2022 her play WATCHDOG was a finalist for the Titchfield Festival Theatre New Playwrights’ Award and received an honourable mention from the Jewish Playwriting Prize. Recent directing credits include the three-time Offie nominated PICKLE (Park Theatre and tour), coming to Soho Theatre in July. After a successful speech writing career, Estee achieved an MA in writing Musical Theatre, becoming a writer and lyricist. She is currently researching a PhD on the Mechanics of Comedy in Musical Theatre.

Her Current projects include: ‘The Long Night Animation’, Jewbilical Cord the Musical, The Attic musical - both with composer Yuval Havkin, and two plays; Shiva at Wit’s End and the Last Will and Testament of Sheila Goodwin.

Her past credits include: Change of Heart the Musical (The Other Palace), Dear George: A Musical Film (The George Wood Theatre). The Attic: Because a Woman Should Know Her Place: Workshop (The Union Theatre).
