What would you do? What would you do if you were alone, left to raise five hungry children? What can I tell them? Stop eating?

Chicago. 1925. Or maybe it’s 1905. Or 1955. Grandma Golde has a hardware store, five children, no money and a dead husband. She also has a story about Prohibition, rum-running and the mob. And a slide show.

Stills was originally created for the LABA Fest at the 14th St Y (NYC) and was streamed as a work-in-progress showing in May 2020. In 2022, the play was recognised as a semi-finalist for the 11th Annual Jewish Playwriting Contest (Jewish Plays Project, NYC).

An acclaimed one-woman-show created by some of the most exciting Jewish talent in UK theatre.

The event will be followed by a post-show discussion with the writer and Debbie Cantor from World Jewish Relief, who will speak about the organisation's historical and modern-day work with refugees.
