Join writer and broadcaster David Baddiel in conversation with Yehudis Fletcher, Charedi founder of counter-extremism group Nahamu, as they discuss what can be done to build bridges and understanding between these two very different lifestyles.

High-profile reports of breaches of coronavirus restrictions in Israel, the US and the UK brought to the fore tensions between the strictly-Orthodox and other strands of Judaism. With estimates that half of all British Jews will be born into Charedi families before the end of this decade, the Institute for Jewish Policy Research has warned of the potential for even greater polarisation to come.

Writer and broadcaster David Baddiel, a self-declared atheist, and Charedi founder of counter-extremism group Nahamu, Yehudis Fletcher, who clashed on social media during the lockdown, explore one of the biggest challenges facing our community today: how do we reconcile our very different ways of life and what can be done to build bridges and understanding? Is there more that unites us than divides us? Henry Grunwald OBE QC will chair this discussion.

David Baddiel is an author, and screenwriter. He has written and performed in a series of highly successful TV shows. He is the author of four books; the most recent being Jews Don't Count.

Yehudis Fletcher is a member of the Charedi community. She is an independent sexual violence advisor for the charity Migdal Emunah. In 2020, Yehudis co-founded Nahamu, the UK’s first think-tank to tackle religious extremism in the Jewish community. Yehudis studies social policy at Salford University.

Henry Grunwald OBE QC is a long-established Queen's Counsel and dedicated advocate, Past President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews and a founder and first Chairman of the Jewish Leadership Council. He is President of World Jewish Relief and Chairman of the National Holocaust Centre and Museum (Beth Shalom).
