Join JW3 for the annual Kristallnacht commemoration, where Steven Frank and members of the Next Generations will be in conversation with Tulip Siddiq MP. Music from Gemma Rosefield.
An evening to reflect and commemorate together, to remember and to keep connecting with the past to shape the future. This year we are commemorating the 85th anniversary of the night of Broken Glass.
Kristallnacht occurred on 9 and 10 November 1938, when the Nazi Parties in Germany and Austria launched a wave of attacks on Jews and Jewish property, further escalating their policy of persecution. The name Kristallnacht refers to the litter of broken glass left in the streets after what amounted to pogroms. Synagogues, Jewish businesses and homes were destroyed.
We will be partnering with Generation 2 Generation to commemorate through survivor testimony and reflections of second and subsequent generations. Pausing to think on how to continue meaningful commemoration and dedication when eye witnesses are no longer able to.
This event is a chance to highlight the next generations and their work in the field, exploring the different ways descendants of eye witnesses are working to convey their family’s history and to ensure that the work done by eye witnesses, survivors and former refugees will be continued.
The idea of looking back and looking forward will be discussed in a panel led by Steven Frank, a Holocaust survivor who has been active in Holocaust Education for decades, and will be facilitated by Tulip Siddiq MP for Hampstead and Kilburn.
